Professional Experience
Work on real projects with a host organization matched to your field.
Spend your summer gaining real-world professional experience in Chile while immersing yourself in the language and culture.
Andes Global Field Programs (AGFP) places university students in professional internships across Chile. You apply, interview, and we work to match you with a host organization that fits your field and where you want to go next.
More than an internship. Gain professional experience, improve your Spanish, and immerse yourself in Chilean culture through activities that connect you with local communities, fellow students, and professionals.
Work on real projects with a host organization matched to your field.
Spanish at work and at home, all day, until it starts to feel natural.
Excursions, guest speakers, and daily life with a Chilean host family.
Select the field that best matches your interests and goals when you apply. We’ll use your choice to identify an internship where you can contribute meaningfully and gain relevant experience.
You work on real projects in Spanish the whole time you are here. Most students tell us their fluency and their confidence at work climb faster than they expected once the language stops being something they think about.
Explore Chilean and Latin American culture and history through excursions and talks by faculty and invited experts.
“My Spanish improved a lot, in both fluency and complexity. Working in technical settings, I picked up immigration, political, and legal vocabulary, and I could hold a real conversation with people from every kind of background in Chile.”AGFP Intern
“I learned more about Chilean politics and the social and political needs of its citizens. Highlights included collaborating on government funding applications, meeting the Governor, and supporting the Smart City Expo.”Minerva García · Harvard College student
“My understanding of Latin American culture deepened by exposing me to new people, histories, and languages I had never explored. Latin America hosts a diverse array of cultures that is truly irreducible.”Dulce Gonzalez · Harvard College student
We work with an experienced housing coordinator to place students with families we know and trust. Living with a family is a big part of the program. It is where a lot of the language sticks, and where a lot of the friendships come from.
Open to currently enrolled undergraduate and graduate students in good academic standing at the time of application.
A minimum intermediate level of Spanish is required; preference is given to more advanced speakers. Activities are conducted primarily in Spanish.
What matters most is being flexible, taking initiative, and approaching the experience with a positive attitude. Students who are open-minded, adaptable, and ready to engage fully tend to get the most out of the program.
