The Program

Real work, and a real place to live it

Andes Global Field Programs (AGFP) places university students in professional internships across Chile. You apply, interview, and we work to match you with a host organization that fits your field and where you want to go next.

More than an internship. Gain professional experience, improve your Spanish, and immerse yourself in Chilean culture through activities that connect you with local communities, fellow students, and professionals.

Professional Experience

Work on real projects with a host organization matched to your field.

Language

Spanish at work and at home, all day, until it starts to feel natural.

Immersion

Excursions, guest speakers, and daily life with a Chilean host family.

Internship Fields

Alongside the Work

Language, culture, and career support

Language & Career

You work on real projects in Spanish the whole time you are here. Most students tell us their fluency and their confidence at work climb faster than they expected once the language stops being something they think about.

Cultural Programming

Explore Chilean and Latin American culture and history through excursions and talks by faculty and invited experts.

In Their Words

What our students say

“My Spanish improved a lot, in both fluency and complexity. Working in technical settings, I picked up immigration, political, and legal vocabulary, and I could hold a real conversation with people from every kind of background in Chile.”
AGFP Intern
“I learned more about Chilean politics and the social and political needs of its citizens. Highlights included collaborating on government funding applications, meeting the Governor, and supporting the Smart City Expo.”
Minerva GarcíaHarvard College student
“My understanding of Latin American culture deepened by exposing me to new people, histories, and languages I had never explored. Latin America hosts a diverse array of cultures that is truly irreducible.”
Dulce GonzalezHarvard College student

Where You Will Live

A home with a Chilean host family

We work with an experienced housing coordinator to place students with families we know and trust. Living with a family is a big part of the program. It is where a lot of the language sticks, and where a lot of the friendships come from.

  • Your own room in a safe, welcoming home
  • Three meals a day for your whole stay
  • A family looking out for you the whole time
